The Merchandise Lofts – 155 Dalhousie Street

Formerly a Sears Warehouse, Merchandise Lofts is now one of the biggest developments in Toronto. It covers an entire city block and houses 504 authentic hard lofts. The original structure of the building hails back to the 1930’s when Max Dunning, a well-known architect from Chicago collaborated with the Toronto firm Burke, Horwood and White to create many of the industrial landmarks that are still prominent in the city today.

When it was converted, Norma King, Cecconi Simone and Brian Goldstein, were all hired to design the interiors. Because three different interior designers were chosen for the project, the styles of the lofts vary in a refreshing way. The kitchens were also customized for the original buyers giving each of the units an added touch of individuality.

Inside the units, you will find 12” ceilings, glass-partitioned bathrooms, solid maple sliding doors and concrete columns. On the rooftop of The Merchandise, there is a landscaped garden with a swimming pool and a barbeque terrace. Residents are welcome to walk their dogs up there or simply enjoy the view of downtown Toronto.

Right next to the building’s entrance on Dalhousie Street is a 24-hr Dominion supermarket and the Dundas subway station is only couple steps away. Overall, the location of The Merchandise Lofts is extremely convenient. It’s only a few blocks away from the Eaton Centre and Dundas Square where there is a wide range of restaurant, cafes, boutiques and cultural events. Additionally, Toronto’s Financial District is just west of The Merchandise and Moss Park is to the east.
